The Guide.

Everything you need to know to get the most from Noēs — for each person who uses it.

Before the first session.

Before your child uses Noēs for the first time, read the opening paragraph with them — the one from Aby. It is short. It tells them honestly what is about to happen and why. Children who hear it tend to arrive at the first session less anxious than those who do not.

Then, leave the room.

This is not a slight. The research is clear: parents who are present during mathematics learning transmit their own anxiety about the subject, even unconsciously. The best thing you can do for your child's mathematical development is to not be in the room when they are doing it.

The single most important thing
When the session ends, do not ask "What did you learn?" Ask "What did you discover?" The difference is not semantic. It signals to your child that the session was about finding something themselves, not receiving information.

Do and don't.

Let them struggle. Struggling before understanding is not a sign that Noēs is failing. It is what the science says learning actually looks like. Struggling is the process. Trust the process.
Read the weekly report. Three sentences. Written for people who do not know what happened in the session. It tells you what your child is working on, what they understood, and what comes next.
Look at the Anamnesis with them occasionally. Ask them to explain one entry to you in their own words. This is retrieval practice — one of the most effective things you can do to help consolidate what they have learned.
For complex equations, type them directly rather than pasting them. If your child is working from a textbook problem or something copied from elsewhere, switch to Equation mode and have them type it fresh using the on-screen math keyboard. Copying a formula that's already rendered on a screen — from a website, an app, anywhere — almost always strips out its structure (exponents, roots, and the boundary between multiple equations all flatten into plain characters), which can make Aby misread the question. Typing it directly, or entering multiple equations one at a time, avoids this entirely.
Don't help during a session. If your child calls you in, say warmly: "Tell Aby what you're thinking — even if you're not sure." Then leave. The whole design of the session depends on Aby being the only one asking questions.
Don't share your anxiety about mathematics. Not even casually ("I was never good at maths either"). Children hear this. It gives them permission to be anxious too.
Don't compare sessions. "You only did ten minutes today" or "You didn't have a discovery this time" — these frame sessions as performances. They are not performances. They are thinking.

How to read the weekly report.

You receive a weekly report after sessions in which your child had a discovery moment. It has three parts.

What happened — a plain account of what the session covered. No jargon. You do not need to understand the mathematics to understand this section.

What it means — why this particular understanding matters for your child's mathematical development. What it unlocks. What it connects to.

What comes next — what Aby is planning to explore in the next session. You do not need to prepare anything. Aby will handle the sequencing.

How often should they use Noēs?

The research optimum for spaced practice is three to four sessions per week, each between fifteen and thirty minutes. This is significantly more effective than longer, less frequent sessions. Mathematics is better learned in short, repeated encounters than in long, occasional ones.

If your child can only manage one or two sessions per week, that is fine. Something is better than nothing. But if you want results, three sessions a week for six months is the minimum meaningful commitment.

Common questions.

My child says Aby never tells them the answer. Isn't that frustrating? +
Yes, sometimes. That is the design. The frustration before understanding is not a malfunction — it is productive failure. The research shows it produces more durable understanding than being told. If your child is frustrated, tell them: "Aby is waiting for you, not testing you. There is no wrong direction."
My child said they didn't understand anything in the session. Should I be worried? +
No. Understanding does not arrive on a schedule. Some sessions are exploration sessions — Aby is finding out where your child is. Understanding accumulates across sessions, not within them. The weekly report will tell you if a pattern of non-understanding develops that needs attention.
Can I use Noēs to replace a human tutor? +
Noēs is not a replacement for a human tutor — it is a different kind of tool. A human tutor brings relationship, adaptability, and professional judgement that Noēs does not replicate. What Noēs offers is unlimited one-on-one Socratic attention, available at any time, for a fraction of the cost. Many families use both.
Can I share my child's progress with their tutor? +
Yes — without giving them your login or setting up a second profile. Your tutor has their own code; enter it from your dashboard's Tutor Access section and they'll get real, read-only access to your child's comprehension map and Anamnesis once you approve the connection. They can never run sessions or change anything on your child's profile. You can revoke it at any time.
Is the data safe? +
Your child's sessions and Anamnesis are stored securely and belong to your child. They are never shared, never used for advertising, never sold. You can export all data at any time and request full deletion — we comply within 48 hours.

How Noēs fits alongside your teaching.

Noēs is not a replacement for you. It is a tool that does something you cannot do economically at scale: give every student unlimited one-on-one Socratic attention, available outside your sessions.

The most effective way to use Noēs alongside tutoring is to assign it before you teach a concept, not after. The research on productive failure is clear: students who attempt a problem before instruction understand it more deeply than students who are taught first. Noēs handles the exploration. You handle the consolidation.

The tutoring workflow that works
1. Noēs first — student explores the concept with Aby over 2–3 sessions before your lesson.
2. Your session — you teach from where the student's comprehension map shows them to be, not from the beginning.
3. Noēs after — student consolidates with Aby, which triggers spaced retrieval and deepens the concept.

Using session history as a diagnostic tool.

Before each session with a student, look at their comprehension map and their Anamnesis. These tell you two different things.

The comprehension map shows which concepts have mastery scores and how strong they are. A low score on equality after six sessions tells you the student has not had a genuine discovery there — they may have answered questions correctly without understanding the underlying structure.

The Anamnesis tells you how the student thinks. Read their entries. The exact words a student uses to describe a mathematical idea reveal more about their conceptual model than any test result. If a student writes "the equals sign means the answer goes after it," you know precisely what to address in your next session.

What to tell your students about Aby.

Some students, especially older ones, will be frustrated that Aby does not give answers. Brief them before their first session:

Tell them the rule up front. "Aby will never give you the answer. That is not a bug. The point is for you to find it. If you feel stuck, say what you are thinking — even if you think it is wrong."
Tell them confusion is information. "When you feel confused, that is Aby gathering information about where you are. She will always find a way to a smaller, solvable version of the problem."
Don't tell them it is like ChatGPT. It is not. Students who come expecting answers will be frustrated for the wrong reasons.

Setting up multiple students.

Every student goes under your own account — the same way a parent adds a second child. Your Tutor dashboard shows a real roster: each student's last session, whether they had a discovery this week, and how their understanding is building, all in one place.

Linking to a student who already has their own account.

If a family already uses Noēs on their own, you don't need to set up a duplicate profile under your account to tutor that child. Your Tutor dashboard has its own code you can share with the parent — once they link their child to it, you get real, read-only access to that student's comprehension map, Anamnesis, and session history, right alongside the students you own directly. You never gain the ability to run sessions for them or change their profile — only to see what's actually happening.

The parent can revoke this at any time from their own dashboard, and so can you. Nothing is shared until both sides have actually agreed to it.

Teaching to your syllabus, whatever board it's from.

Noēs doesn't have a CBSE mode, an ICSE mode, or an IB mode — and that's deliberate, not a gap. The Constellation is organised around twelve foundational mathematical ideas, not around any one board's chapter list, which means it was never built around a single curriculum in the first place.

For the actual chapter you're teaching this week, use the Agora. Common questions from schools.

Is our students' data safe? +
Each child's sessions and Anamnesis belong to that child, never sold or used for advertising. We take children's data protection seriously, including India's DPDP Act requirements around verifiable parental consent — happy to walk through our data handling directly with your admin team before any pilot begins.
Does this replace our teachers? +
No. Aby gives every student the one-on-one Socratic attention a teacher can't give 30–40 students individually — it fills that gap, it doesn't stand in for a teacher's judgement, relationship, or classroom presence.
Can we try it with just one class first? +
Yes — that's the recommended way to start. Aby's Bee costs nothing and needs no commitment. A full pilot with one classroom for a term, before any school-wide decision, is the standard path to the School Standard plan.

Aby will treat you as a thinker.

Noēs is designed for ages 4–16, but the Socratic method does not have an age limit. Mathematics anxiety is not a childhood condition — it persists into adulthood and affects how adults engage with numbers, probability, and reasoning in their professional and personal lives.

When you set up as an adult learner, Aby switches to her thinker mode. Her questions are more precise. Her language is more exact. She expects you to push back. She does not talk down to you.

She still will not give you the answer.

What to expect in the first three sessions.

The first session is calibration. Aby is finding out how you think — not what you know. She will ask questions that seem almost too simple. Answer them honestly, including when you are uncertain. The more you tell her about your actual thinking, the more useful the subsequent sessions will be.

The second and third sessions will feel different. Aby will have a clearer model of your conceptual gaps — not your knowledge gaps, but the places where your understanding of mathematical structure is softer than you may have thought.

Many adults arrive at Noēs believing they are bad at mathematics. Most leave the first session wondering when they were told that, and why they believed it.

The Agora is where adults use Noēs best.

The constellation (the home screen) is organised around the twelve foundational ideas of mathematics — a structured progression. This is excellent for building from the ground up.

But the Agora is different. In the Agora, you bring any question. Not a school question — any question. Why does compound interest accelerate the way it does? What is the Monty Hall problem actually saying about probability? What is an imaginary number, really, and why does it exist?

The Agora is where adult curiosity about mathematics is best served. Aby will explore any question you bring her, following it wherever it leads, for as long as it takes.

A good first question for the Agora
Think of the mathematical idea that has always confused or frustrated you. The one you avoided in school. The one you pretend to understand when it comes up. Bring that one first. Aby has time.

Your Anamnesis.

Every genuine discovery you make — things you work out yourself during a session, in your own reasoning — goes into your Anamnesis. In your own words. Not a definition. Not Aby's explanation. Your understanding, as you articulated it in the moment.

Read it back after a month. The most common reaction from adult users: surprise at how much they have changed their minds, and how solidly they understand things they previously thought were beyond them.

The book belongs to you. You can export it at any time. It is a record of how your thinking has changed — which is the only meaningful measure of learning.

Common questions from adult learners.

Is Noēs appropriate for adults preparing for professional exams? +
Noēs builds conceptual understanding, not procedural fluency. For an exam that requires you to execute specific procedures under time pressure, you will need practice materials alongside Noēs. But for understanding why the mathematics works — which is what produces durable performance — Noēs is unusually effective for adult learners returning to quantitative work.
I haven't done mathematics since school. Is this going to be humiliating? +
No. Aby starts from wherever you are. She does not know what you should know. She only knows what your responses tell her. There is no test at the start. There is no comparison to any standard. She will ask you a question, listen to your answer, and ask the next question from there.
Can I use Noēs alongside other learning resources? +
Yes, and it works well alongside them. If you are working through a textbook or a course, bring the concepts that confuse you to Aby. She will explore them Socratically — which is a different and complementary kind of engagement from reading or watching.
